Itinerary
DAY 1 / Saturday April 12
FLIGHT TO ISTANBUL
DAY 2 / Sunday April 13 Arrival in Istanbul
Louise and Jacques will meet you at the airport. Tansfer and registration at the hotel. Depending on the arrival time, it may be possible to do an orientation tour of sights in the hotel vicinity, including the Blue Mosque.
DAY 3 / Monday April 14 Istanbul
Visit of Istanbul the beautiful, its neighborhoods and major monuments : the Underground Cistern with reflections of its columns in the water, the hippodrome, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace.
DAY 4 / Tuesday April 15 Istanbul - Boat tour on the Bosphorous
This tour makes you travel between Europe and Asia and back, offering superb views of the magical city of Istanbul. We will visit Emirgan Park, official site of the Istanbul Tulip Festival where thousands of tulips are in bloom. Stop at Eyup Cemetery if time permits. Whirling Dervish performance in the evening.
DAY 5 / Wednesday April 16 Kusadasi
Flight to Izmir, then drive to Kusadasi. In the afternoon, visit of the ancient city of Iona, Priene, with its well-preserved remains of the Temple of Athena, theater, gymnasium and houses.
DAY 6 / Thursday April 17 Kusadasi
Early morning, visit of the world’s best preserved Roman city, Ephesus. It is famed for the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Visit of the House of the Virgin, which is believed to be the last residence of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus.
DAY 7 / Friday April 18 Cappadocia
Flight to Cappadocia. Exploratory visit of the region.
DAY 8 / Saturday April 19 Cappadocia
Several short walks allow us to admire the surreal beauty of Cappadocia, Swiss cheese tuff (volcanic formation) in which were built houses, monasteries and even entire villages. Spectacular colors change according to the time of day. Visit of the rock churches in Goreme.
DAY 9 / Sunday April 20 Cappadocia
We will take a short hike along the Ihlara Valley and visit the Underground City of Derinkuyu. In the afternoon, visit of the 10th-12th century abandonned rock monastery of Selime.
DAY 10 / Monday April 21 Adiyaman
Long scenic drive to Adiyaman. Arrival at our hotel at the end of the afternoon. Rest to prepare for our very early departure the next morning.
DAY 11 / Tuesday April 22 Adiyaman
Departure at around 2:30am to drive to the site of Nemrut Dagi for the sunrise. It takes about an hour to hike to the summit of the mountain to photograph, in the early morning light, the giant statue heads dating back to the 1st century BC. While driving back to the hotel, we will stop to photograph the remarkable landscape and the reliefs from 1st century BC at Arsemia, as well as the old roman bridge near Nemrut Dag. Drive to Sanliurfa. Stops at the Euphrates River and the impressive Ataturk Dam.
We settle into our hotel at the end of the day.
DAY 12 / Wednesday April 23 Sanliurfa
In the afternoon, we will explore and photograph the old bazaar area in Sanliurfa, a jumble of streets, selling everything from sheepskins and pigeons to jeans. A unique area for people photography. We will also visit Abraham’s Pond and the Cave of Abraham, the prophet’s supposed birthplace.
DAY 13 / Thursday April 24 Istanbul
Drive to Harran in the morning to shoot the town’s traditional domed “beehive” houses. We will also stop at the cave where Job supposedly stayed when he had leprosy. Visit of a caravan serait dating back to the 13th century, ne of the jewels of Seljuk art. Afternoon flight back to Istanbul.
DAY 14 / Friday April 25 Istanbul
Visit Hagia Sophia in the morning. In the afternoon, enchantment and good shopping guaranteed in the Grand Bazaar, the largest covered market in the world. Also, visit of spice bazaar. Farewell dinner in a typical Turkish restaurant.
DAY 15 / Saturday April 26 Istanbul - Transfer to the airport and return flight home.
