Practical Information
EQUIPMENT
Participants are required to bring a digital camera , a choice of lens, a computer and an USB key to transfer images. The computer must be equipped with an image processing software. DO NOT FORGET a spare battery for your camera, your charging station and the user manual of your camera. A macro lens, a tripod, a diffuser and a reflector are highly recommended but not mandatory. Remember to bring your mouse and a mouse pad.
You are not required to have an SLR camera, but keep in mind that you will not get the same results with a bridge or compact cameras. When in doubt do not hesitate to contact Louise Tanguay.
ACCOMMODATION
Participants will be staying at the Dumoine Club Lodge. It should be noted that the lodge provides basic accommodations and a limited number of rooms. There are 6 rooms available in the lodge and a cabin with 2 bedrooms. Bedrooms are furnished with twin, bunk or double beds. Bring your own sheets, towels, pillows and sleeping bags.
Distribution of bedrooms will be determined once the number of participants is confirmed. Please note that sharing of rooms may be required.
OTHER
The area and lodge is in the wilderness and participants need to come well prepared.
It is ESSENTIAL to pack good gear for the following protection and activities:
Rain... good quality raincoat, boots, rain hat
Sun… wide brim hat, sunscreen, sunglasses
Cold... early mornings and evenings can be cool, bring a fleece or down jacket
Walking… waterproof hiking boots are highly recommended we will be walking on rough trails, sometimes through scratchy brush or wetlands
Bugs... bring insect repellant - sometimes fall heat brings out a new hatch of mosquitos
Carrying equipment… back pack suitable to carry snacks , camera equipment and change of clothes. Do not forget to bring your water bottle.
Swimming... the water will be cool but it might be nice to go for an early afternoon dip
Darkness... bring a headlamp or flashlight for night walks.
Boating.... there are motor boats and canoes available. Bring a paddle and life jacket if you plan to use them.
Fishing.... you will probably be too busy shooting and editing to fish but if you want to try your luck you must have a Quebec licence and a ZEC Des Joachims licence both available at the ZEC office in the village.
Power... is limited. The generators will be turned on after lunch and dinner. Participants will be able to charge their computers and batteries.
Communication… cellphones will not work beyond Des Joachims village. The guide will have a satellite phone for emergencies. Participants may use for personal calls at cost of $3.00/min.
Power sources… propane and woodstove are the two power sources for heat, refrigeration and cooking. There are propane heated showers for our "quick " use .
Beverages… there will be juices, water, coffee, tea and other non alcoholic drinks available at all times. BYOB – you may bring a modest supply of beer and wine if desired.
Food… meals will be provided from Dinner on arrival to lunch on departure. Please advise Louise and Wally of any food allergies.
Smoking… there is NO smoking in the lodge or cabins.
Folding camping chair… practical addition to your gear.
Personal supplies... ensure you bring personal supplies we are in the wilderness and no stores are available other then in the village of Des Joachims.
Medical conditions… please advise Louise and Wally of any medical condition and bring a suitable supply of personal medicine. We are 2 hours away from the closest hospital in Deep River.
Emergency contact... an emergency contact person will be available in Des Joachims. Should you require a message be delivered to you at the lodge it will cost $100.00
Emergency evacuation… ensure that you have appropriate insurance coverage for emergency evacuations - you are responsible for all expenses.
